Washington Pass

Lucy had a bit of surgery on 10/15/2010 to remove/clean some teeth and have a skin thing removed. Since she'd been under anesthesia, we wanted to do an outing that would allow her plenty of time to just sleep in her bed/seat in the car. We decided to go up to Highway 20 and drive over Washington Pass.

The trip was pretty uneventful, with the usual drive along the Skagit River and up into the mountains. When we got up to the pass, we stopped at the "rest area" at the pass. Usually when we drive through here, it's closed because of too much snow.

We were really surprised by how amazing the views were from this short walk from the parking lot. And also how scary the "nature hike" trail was. Look at these pictures.

No, you aren't imagining things. That IS the trail. There is a reason most people stopped at that first overlook. It was pretty hairy and I left my hiking poles in the car!
