Dan was laid off this spring from his job but quickly found another one in Seattle, Washington. We've been talking about leaving the Bay Area for a few years. The rents are too high, the gas costs are too high. The electric bill is getting too high. We just haven't been able to feel like we were getting ahead. This is a great opportunity for us.
We've chosen an apartment on the Island side of Puget Sound. The town is Silverdale and it's a ferry ride away from Seattle and has a more rural feeling to it than the urban living of Seattle, Renton and West Seattle neighborhoods we looked at.
Click here if you want to see a map of where Silverdale is in relation to Seattle.
Here are a couple of pictures of the outside of the apartment complex. The buildings are the same color, I don't know why they don't appear that way in the photos. On a clear day (they do have them in Seattle, don't they?) you can see the Olympics in the distance behind the complex. I'll try to get a photo of it once we move there.

Just below the complex is a shopping center with all the necessities in life.. Albertsons, Starbucks, Blockbuster Video. Another block away is another shopping center with a Staples, Safeway, JoAnn's Fabrics and Hollywood Video. About 2 blocks after that is a huge mall. Also nearby are stores like Circuit City, Good Guys, Home Depot, etc.
Here are some photos we took of an apartment we were able to preview. It's actually the one next door to the one we rented. Our apartment will be a mirror image of this one and some of the items in the kitchen will be different (the sink is where the stove is and there is a window in the side wall). Click here for a floorplan of the apartment.

Here's one of the two identical bedrooms

The view from the living room through the "dining
room" and into the kitchen.

This is from the kitchen back into the living room.
The fireplace is on the left and that "window" area on the
right is where the entry way is.
|
This is the kitchen. Look at all that counter space.
I may actually be able to cook in there. :)

Here's the bench near Alki Beach in West Seattle where
we made our apartment decision before the mad dash to the ferry!

I'll try to post more information once we move in and get settled.
